MORE than 1000 people converged on Elder Park today – joining tens of thousands of others nationally in calling for action on climate change.
The Adelaide gathering was one of the 130 events across Australia organised by GetUp and other activist groups, including Greenpeace and Oxfam.
Nationally an estimated 60,000 people turned out to campaign for action.
Addressing the crowd, Greg Northcott from the United Firefighters Union said it was clear there was a link between climate change and extreme weather conditions.
“Firefighters do not doubt the effects of climate change,” he said.
“We need to be prepared, that’s our message as firefighters.
“We need to be prepared to act on climate change and reduce its effects.”
