Advice has been received this morning that the employer has agreed that firefighters, including Retained Firefighters, will join all other Australian workers in receiving the additional public holiday time to mark the National Day of Mourning tomorrow, 22 September 2022.

The government has authorised that firefighters will be granted the additional public holiday leave which will generally be added to your leave bank to mark the historic occasion.

Individual arrangements may apply in some circumstances i.e. for those Day workers who are able to take the day off on the actual public holiday, no additional day will be added to your leave bank.

If you are uncertain about what applies to you, or if you experience difficulties, please check with your chain of command in the first instance; Members are also strongly advised to keep an eye on your leave bank to ensure the additional day is attributed to you and to act promptly in writing if not.

As previously reported our union has been focussed on the conclusion to the EA negotiations and seeking an enhanced pay offer in what appears to be an unnecessarily arduous process. This afternoon correspondence has been received from the Industrial Relations Branch of the Attorney General’s Department in response to the UFU’s demand for action and it has been agreed to meet on 29 September to progress the matter. Members will continue to be kept advised
