ARC23 – Australasian Rescue Challenge 2023

Congratulations to all UFUSA members involved in organising and participating in the Australasian Rescue Challenge 2023 currently underway at the Wayville Pavilion in the Adelaide Showgrounds. (29/6 – 2/7/23)

Members may be aware that there are around 300 emergency services personnel from different countries involved in this initiative which demonstrates the skills, techniques and knowledge of first responders in a range of road crash rescue challenges.

Of course as demonstrated by past success, the dedication, training, and experience of UFUSA members really shines in these exercises, doing us proud.

ARC23 is a free event is hosted jointly by MFS, CFS and SES, and tomorrow Sunday 2 July is your last opportunity to get along and cheer on our teams, network with other participants from Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong and the UK and to learn about new techniques and equipment.

Reminder/caution: the public are invited to attend ARC23 to gain a realistic insight into the experience of emergency services personnel and some demonstrations will include live volunteer casualties with special effects replicating real injuries.

Members may recall the inclusion in the new enterprise agreement (EA) of a review of the promotions system in the SAMFS. While commencement has not been as speedy as planned, with the assistance of the Commissioner for Public Employment, an independent review is about to commence with an estimated timing for a report to be presented to the Commissioner, Chief Officer and me in December of this year for consideration. Members will be kept informed of progress.

Other reviews either underway, about to commence or hopefully soon to be concluded, include Regional Operations, Marine and Fire Cause Investigation.

Work is underway to ensure that current vacancies in the Engineering Department are being filled and that the commitments made to our union such as the appointment and proper training and supervision of apprentices proceeds. This will help to ensure a strong and resilient service to our fleet.

Unions exist to create better workplaces, and better, fairer communities for all. That’s why across the country, workers are coming together to work towards Yes!

Yes to constitutional recognition for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and a voice on matters that affect them. This is your invitation to join a vibrant community of like-minded workers, families, and supporters on July 2, as we bring the nation together for a free day of community, family fun and culture not to be missed. There will be food trucks, coffee and ice cream, live music, performing arts, crafts and storytelling. As well as more information on this important initiative.
