May 1, May Day is a commemoration of the achievements of the labour movement, also known as International Workers Day. Across the globe, union members turn out to parades, picnics and other celebrations of the improvements won by the resolution and solidarity of workers, such as shorter working hours, better pay, enhanced work health and safety, and improved working conditions.
Last Saturday UFU members joined many members of other unions and their families and friends in this important celebration which provided the opportunity for us to get together with those we work with on different issues through the year, and who have supported us in our recent campaigns.
Our union was well represented by the participation of members with family and friends (and fur babies), accompanied by the Kaurna painted MFS appliance which joined us in the march, and when we passed Adelaide Station, our fabulous members on A shift put on a magnificent display, inspiring all who saw it and demonstrating our unity. Feedback received has been enthusiastic and supportive including:

Emergency Services Minister Joe Szakacs even made an appearance and was welcomed.
The day was capped off by a family fun day. It was great to see the kids with their face painted, playing on the attractions and enjoying the petting zoo. And the loaded chips and ice cream were a great hit.
A very big thank you to all members who made the day such a great success. It is your participation and commitment which ensures successful outcomes for our members and for workers generally.
