MEETING WEDNESDAY ON WAGES

Members will be aware that a meeting of Shop Stewards and State Councillors called for Wednesday, 19 October 2022 at the Union Office at 11:00 hours, will consider firefighter remuneration with an up-to date report to be provided.

The focus will obviously be on the adequacy of the current offer from the employer and matters arising from that discussion. It would be appreciated if you would ensure you have a chat with your local rep, either Shop Steward or State Councillor, and let us know your thoughts. Please find below for your information some data on the CPI and some calculations of what different wage offers would deliver for different ranks, which may assist your considerations and discussions.

Thank you to those of you who have already shared your views and we certainly understand the economic hardships and stress confronting so many members and families. There is a proposed plan to fight for wage justice if members are up for it; as always strength and unity are requirements for success. Clearly it is critical that all stations and work groups are represented at this meeting for this important discussion; RSVPs should be directed to info@ufusa.com.au

MEMBERS MEETING ON SUPERANNUATION

Just prior to the above meeting on Wednesday 19/10, there is the opportunity from 09:30 hours to discuss your superannuation with Fund Manager Darren Royals and your UFUSA Board reps, in a friendly relaxed environment.

Planning for your retirement is always important even though right now for some, it may seem more relevant to a far distant future. The behaviour of markets can have a significant impact – do you know what’s going on now? Are you going on or planning parental leave with a firm grasp on how this leave can affect your superannuation? Are you still covered for example, by the scheme’s insurance?

Please join us at the UFUSA office, 148 South Road Torrensville by sending an RSVP ASAP to
info@ufusa.com.au with the heading Superannuation Meeting if you would like to attend.

VALE SCOTT BLAKE

We were all deeply saddened to hear the news last week of the death of UFUSA member Scott Blake. A stalwart member of the UFU, Scott was employed by Ventia as a Firefighter at the RAAF Base at Edinburgh. Our thoughts are with Scott’s family, friends and co-workers.

In solidarity,
