Many Members have been raising justified concerns about the length of time that the promotion processes are taking with this being an ongoing issue for far too long.
In discussion on the matter with Chief Officer Jeff Swann this afternoon, he expressed his regret for the lengthy time the process has taken and advised that the Promotions Panel Report will be issued this week and that promotions will follow shortly thereafter.
Members should be aware that this is not a matter which has been ignored by our union and that we have been constantly seeking both better processes and outcomes.
Chief Officer Swann agreed with our concerns and requested that I pass on to you all that he believes this has indeed gone on far too long, is very unfair to those affected and that he intends to conduct a review to ensure there is no repeat in the future.
We welcome the Chief’s response, look forward to the commensurate actions and we will continue to be a strong advocate for members in addressing issues of concern raised with us in the reviews of both the Station Officer and Commander promotion processes.
There is certainly much to work on.

HSR TRAINING
A big shout out to all your elected Health and Safety Representatives (HSR’s) attending the five day training for HSR level I at the UFU office this week, from a wide range of areas including Woodville, Salisbury, Noarlunga, Beulah Park, OTR, Comms, Regional full-time and Retained firefighters from across the state from Port Lincoln through York Peninsula, Port Pirie and Mount Barker through to Mount Gambier Stations, importantly not forgetting two Ventia HSRs from the RAAF base at Edinburgh.
So much to learn and very grateful to all those picking up this extra responsibility to help keep our members safe and healthy.
