REMINDER – UFU ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING & XMAS LUNCH NEXT THURSDAY 7 DECEMBER 2023

UFUSA AGM 2023

As per Wordback 15/2023, our Union AGM and Christmas Lunch are being held next Thursday, 7 December 2023 at the UFUA office, 148 South Road Torrensville commencing at 10:30 hours. Members are strongly encouraged to attend to receive a report on the activities of your union over the past 12 months as well as what’s likely to be coming up next.

A change to our Rules for example is proposed to enable members to vote in our union elections by electronic means in 2024, instead of the anachronistic “snail mail” ballot through Australia Post. The highlighted proposed changes are posted on the UFUA SA website which you can access via this link
https://www.ufusa.com.au/rules-united-fire-fighters-of-south-australia/.

State Council have been working hard on proposals to properly finance the ongoing work of our union with a recommendation developed at the November meeting of State Council to be put to the AGM for consideration. Further detail of the November considerations and recommendation will be provided in the next Wordback prior to the AGM.

Krystle from La La Latte will again be on site from first thing in the morning with your complimentary start-up coffee, to be followed by the traditional and always excellent spit roast lunch and salads by Gormandiser Spit Roast BBQ, providing an opportunity for members to relax and enjoy the fruits of another years hard work. We hope to see you there and look forward to catching up.

Please let us know of your attendance and any special dietary requirements ASAP by emailing info@ufuasa.com.au or calling us on 8352 7211. All members are warmly welcomed to attend.

UNSAFE & UNACCEPTABLE WORKING CONDITIONS WORSEN IN THE SAMFS COMMS CENTRE

Torrential rains experienced in Adelaide this week resulted in more flooding of the MFS Communications Centre. Members may recall the report in Wordback 15/2023 issued on 3 October about concerns raised by members expected to work in substandard conditions. A certain high level MFS manager was subsequently reported to be outraged by our complaint at the time, saying the matter was well in hand and repairs scheduled. Yet almost 2 months later the problem has simply worsened. Ironic perhaps that this is the same manager who not so long ago said we didn’t need rain jackets! The matter has been escalated through WHS for urgent attention by the MFS and members will be kept advised of progress.

SAMFS PRE-RETIREMENT SEMINAR

Our union has been asked to remind members employed by the SAMFS who may be contemplating retirement that a pre-retirement seminar is being conducted on Wednesday, 13 December 2023 from 0900 to 16:00 hours.

The venue is the Basement Theatrette at of the State Administration Centre, 200 Victoria Square, Tarntanyangga, Adelaide.

You can bring a partner and lunch will be provided so please do let Nicky Tsokkas at the SAMFS Superannuation Fund know ASAP if you’d like to attend; registrations close on 5 December 2023.

In solidarity
