from the heart

The UFUSA is proud to announce its support of the Uluru Statement from the Heart.

Solidarity is the fundamental principle to unionism. It is what binds us and if one us of us affected, we all are. Touch one, touch all. As such the struggle of our First Nations’ comrades is union business.

During the UFUSA 2021 conference, our State Council, Shop Stewards and Health and Safety Representatives unanimously moved that the UFUSA commit to supporting the proposals of Voice, Treaty, Truth, in the Uluru Statement from the Heart.

To quote the information from the Uluru Statement website, “the Uluru Statement calls for a First Nations Voice to Parliament and a Makaratta Commission to supervise a process of agreement-making and truth-telling. These reforms are: Voice, Treaty, Truth.”

The UFUSA supports the call for a constitutional recognition of First Nations people, a representative body to supervise the treaty process and a voice in parliament. We recognise that like all people, First Nations have a right to self-determination.

We are proud to support our First Nations comrades in their fight for recognition.

Please visit the website for further information about how you can also support the Uluru Statement.

UFUSA Motion Of Support

The UFUSA commits to supporting the proposals of Voice, Treaty, Truth, in the Uluru Statement from the Heart. We have accepted the statement’s invitation to walk with First Nations people for a better future, beginning with the campaign for a constitutionally enshrined First Nations Voice to parliament. To do this, we will ensure all members have heard the Uluru Statement and we will join First Nations people to put pressure on the Federal Government to go to a Voice referendum in the next term of government, beginning with writing to the Opposition Leader, the Minister of Indigenous Australians, and the Prime Minister.
