With the courage of conviction, UFUSA members turned out in force at the Safety and Resourcing Campaign Rally last week, in solidarity with Ambos fighting for Safer Staffing Safer Community.
Thank you to all who attended in the face of the threats and bullying of the employer designed to undermine this important campaign; you are inspiring to all who witnessed you publicly demonstrating your concern and preparedness to raise your collective voice. Together we can make a difference.
The attendance and support of family and friends, other unions, Aviation firefighters, community groups and members of the public was overwhelming not to mention that of our UFUSA members of the cycling and running groups who put in an extra effort of many kilometres on their way to the rally. To those who were with us in spirit, thank you also.
Together Firies and Ambos demonstrated great solidarity in a common cause sending a very strong message to the Marshall government about the need to get their priorities right and properly resource emergency services. Our respective campaigns are far from over, but great strength is derived from such collective action. It is to be hoped that the government will listen and reflect on its previous vow to us both of “Not $1more” for emergency services in SA.
Meantime thank you to the 100 firefighter members who attended the Visy fire at Wingfield yesterday and once again did such a magnificent professional job in difficult circumstances. It is disappointing but not surprising to hear of the appliance malfunction which occurred there.
Thank you for continuing your work of protecting our community under such difficult circumstances and know that our union will continue to pursue our campaign objectives of safety and resourcing to ensure you can continue to perform your work safely.
