UFUSA WELCOMES SENIOR INDUSTRIAL OFFICER DAN FARMER

We are very pleased to introduce Dan Farmer as our new UFUSA Senior Industrial Officer, though many of you will already have met Dan in the course of your involvement in union business over the last few weeks in areas such as working on the Trades EA and workers rehabilitation and compensation matters.

A teacher in a former life, Dan also brings with him more than 20 years of industrial experience with the Australian Education Union (AEU) involving a broad spectrum of work including complex cases and strategic campaigns, and he is already making a very strong and proactive contribution to the work of our union.

Dan replaces Les Birch who has returned to his long overdue retirement with our best wishes and thanks for his work for the union. The workers rehabilitation and compensation portfolio will now be allocated across our industrial staff ensuring in ongoing breadth and depth of knowledge and experience in this important area. FIREFIGHTER MICK TISBURY TO FEATURE ON AUSTRALIAN STORY RE PFAS CAMPAIGN

ABC Health Reporter Tegan Taylor speaks with UFU Victorian Branch member Mick Tisbury about his work on PFAS chemicals and elevated cancer risks associated with their use in firefighting. Mick has an amazing story to tell after having uncovered contamination scandals, presented to the United Nations Stockholm Convention in Geneva and then going on to find a way to reduce PFAS blood levels, which was backed by a peer reviewed study. Mick’s work will have a tremendous worldwide impact on Firefighter health.

APFF FAMILY FUN DAY AT ST KILDA PLAYGROUND WEDNESDAY 5 OCTOBER 2022

It’s school holiday time so why not join in the latest initiative of the hard working folks at APFF?

You and your family are invited to join the APFF for a day out at the St Kilda Playground. Hosted by Trevor Ward and Sally Smith, ALL are welcome – so bring your parents or your kids, or just bring yourself to come and join the fun.

Please don’t forget to send your RSVP’s to sally.smith@eso.sa.gov.au, to assist with catering. The APFF will be providing a sausage sizzle, hosted by our Wonderful Retirees, as well as juice boxes, soft drinks, water and fruit, for the day…. And there might even be a coffee van showing up too!!!!

ENTERPRISE AGREEMENT (EA) NEGOTIATIONS FOR TRADES MEMBERS

A reminder to all members employed in BATA and the Engineering Department of the joint unions meeting called for this week to discuss the new EA for the public sector trades group.

Where: West Adelaide Football Club (57 Milner Road Richmond.)

The MFS have been advised that there is a collective bargaining union meeting and all employees who are rostered on duty are to be released and paid for the meeting and travel time. MEMBERS MEETING ON SUPERANNUATION

A union meeting to discuss superannuation is scheduled to be held at 09:30 hours on 19 October 2022 at UFUSA office, 148 South Road Torrensville with morning tea provided.
