Nominations For Health and Safety Representatives

Nominations are sought from UFU Members to fill the positions of Work Health and Safety Representative/Shop Steward and Deputy Work Health and Safety Representative/Shop Steward at full time SAMFS worksites where there is currently no formally elected HSR / Shop Steward.

The Registered Constitution and Rules of the United Firefighters Union of South Australia Inc. provide for the election of Health and Safety Representatives in accordance with the “Occupational Health, Safety and Welfare Act” (or its successors – currently the Work Health and Safety Act 2012) and that upon election as a Health and Safety Representative, that person automatically becomes a Shop Steward within the meaning of the Rules.

Accordingly, as the UFUSA Returning Officer, Industrial Officer Jaspreet Kaur is calling for nominations for Work Health and Safety Representative/ Shop Steward and for Deputy Health and Safety Representative/Deputy Shop Steward for the following worksites:

  • Golden Grove
  • Port Adelaide
  • O’Halloran Hill
  • Salisbury
  • Relievers (A, B, D shift)
  • Headquarters (20) C Shift
  • Fire Investigations

Nominations will open on Monday 27 July 2020 and close midnight 9 August 2020.

The nomination form can be found here and can also be obtained by emailing industrial@ufusa.com.au

Completed nomination forms should be returned to the UFU Office – by email to industrial@ufusa.com.au; by post to PO Box 289 TORRENSVILLE SA 5039, or via fax to (08) 8234 1031

If only one nomination is received for any position by the closing date for nominations, that position will be filled without the conduct of a ballot and the successful candidate will be informed as soon as possible. If more than one nomination is received for any position, a secret ballot will be held to elect the representative.

Where required, ballots will open on 17 August 2020 and close at midnight on 30 August 2020 with the successful candidate being announced no later than 4 September 2020.

Members are urged to consider nominating. There is an expectation that Work Health and Safety Representatives/Shop Stewards will undertake training to enable you to fulfil that role. Training dates for the second half of 2020 will be provided as soon as they become available.

In solidarity,
